The M.H. Newton Family Life Enrichment Center is a vibrant, community-based hub proudly owned and sponsored by Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. Since opening our doors on July 4, 1999, we have been dedicated to serving the Greater Sumter Community by providing comprehensive programs and services that enrich the lives of children, youth, and families.
Our Mission and Vision
Our mission is to offer a range of services designed to nurture the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Through Evangelism, Fellowship, and Discipleship, we empower individuals and families to reach their full potential while strengthening community bonds. This vision, inspired by a divine revelation to Pastor Marion H. Newton, continues to drive our commitment to personal and community development.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
Housed in over 15,000 square feet of modern space, our center is designed to be both a place of learning and recreation. The facility features:
- Classrooms and Computer Lab: Equipped with wireless internet access, these areas support educational programs and digital literacy.
- Full-Court Basketball Court: With bleacher seating for 300, the court provides a dynamic venue for sports, community events, and youth engagement.
- Public Meeting Spaces: Ideal for gatherings, community meetings, and special events, these spaces help foster connection and collaboration within South Sumter.
Programs and Services
HYPE After School Program
HYPE is our innovative after-school program designed to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for students. Operating at nine locations across the area, HYPE offers:
Academic Enrichment & Homework Assistance: Helping students excel in their studies.
Character Development & Team Building: Fostering skills that build confidence and resilience.
Creative Arts & Physical Activities: Including art, music, dance, and martial arts, all aimed at holistic development.
This program is supported by a network of community partners, including the South Carolina State Department of Education, Sumter School District, local churches, and other esteemed organizations.
Summer Camp
Our summer camp runs from June through August and offers a fun, engaging, and educational environment for children aged six and up. Camp highlights include:
- Daily Bible Study and Reading Hour: Building a strong spiritual and academic foundation.
- Recreation and Field Trips: Encouraging exploration and physical activity.
- Diverse Learning Opportunities: Classes in food and nutrition, gardening, music, art, Spanish, and computer literacy.
- Specialized Sessions: Reading Camp and Math Camp, with breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided.
